Power Chords
Let's get back to basics! The "power chord," sometimes notated as a root name followed by a 5, includes just the root and 5th, but no 3rd or 7th. Often, the root is on top as well. Here's a C5, found in two positions on the neck.

Sixth string roots: G7 with octave 5fths, octave 5ths and roots, G7 with octave 7ths, G7 with octave 7ths and roots
Fifth string roots: G7 with octave 5ths, octaves with the 7th on top, G7 with octave roots (3rd finger on the bottom)
