It's time to expand our harmonic knowledge to include several new colors. There are several ways to learn new voicing shapes on the guitar. One way is to slightly modify a voicing you already know, by changing a note or two, into a different type of voicing. Another, slightly more complex way, is to spell the out the chord tones and use a formula to come up with a new voicing.
Drop-2 is a term used at Berklee to describe a configuration of chord tones, pleasing to the ear, and, more importantly to guitarists, relatively easy to execute on the fretboard. It’s the best way to play seventh chords on four consecutive strings.
Note:
From what I gather, Drop 2 is basically just a manipulation of the second inversion of C7 and the Root to the bass note (2nd note from the top in the second inversion table).
